A big shout-out and massive congratulations to rejoining club member and former 1st XI Captain Ben Frazer, who has proudly represented England in the Over 40s Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
Wearing the Three Lions shirt alongside cricketing legends including Darren Stevens and former England opening batter Nick Compton, Ben quickly became a key member of the squad battling it out in Cape Town.
I’m sure many of you were also watching the live stream of the matches (and seeing Fraze constantly over appealing!) but the England team got off to a flying start in the tournament, thrashing Zimbabwe, USA, Canada, Namibia and then most enjoyably beating the Aussies off the last ball. Sadly, home nation and eventual winners South Africa just proved too much for the lads in the semi-final, and the dream was over for another two years.
Some very impressive stats to report from the young 42-year-old, too: 121 runs at 30 (including the fastest 50 of the tournament) and 8 wickets at 17 is a superb effort.
Well done Fraze; a very well deserved selection and great job out there. Now we all look forward to you talking us through every wicket over a beer in the summer...
