An update on all things Junior Cricket

The Summer League wound up at the end of August with the U13’s narrow defeat in the final of the competition against a strong Berkahmstead side. Having strolled through the group stages the boys beat a very good Bishops Stortford side at St Georges to secure a final place at North Mymms CC.
A belated congrats to all the boys who played in the U13 Summer League this year.

So, while the 2024 season is over, Junior winter cricket continues apace so it seems a good time to give an overview of all the cricket that our juniors are taking part in over the Winter and Spring training sessions and how you can take part.

Harpenden CC Winter training

The club runs indoor training sessions for all age groups from October to Christmas. We are very fortunate at Harpenden to have an incredible Junior coaching team. Run by our Head of Junior Cricket and 1st XI opening batsman, Scott Galloway, and backed up by a team of talented coaches from the 2024 Hertfordshire Premier Champions, our Juniors get the best coaching from the best players in the county who are inspiring the next generation of Harpenden title winners.

All of our age groups are full for the on-going Winter sessions (Oct-Dec) but keep an eye out for Spring training notifications on the website that start in January when we will be looking to add additional session to the existing ones and to get them all set for the start of the season.

ECB Hertfordshire County Performance Pathway & Charley Cricket

Hertfordshire Cricket runs an extensive Winter training program for ages 10 (Year 5) and upwards from October through to the spring as part of the ECB recognised, Herts County pathway.

Charley Cricket is available from U10 to U12 and comprises weekly coaching evenings over the winter followed by coaching camps in the Summer. It is not selective and is open to all and is an excellent way to give your child more coaching and get them on the path to county level cricket. Follow the link to get more information and to sign up.

From the U13/Year 8 and above, Charley Cricket becomes the more selective County Age Group and County Development programme, entry to which is subject to a trial process and, while it is not mandatory that your child has taken part in the Charley Cricket program, it certainly helps the county selectors when it comes to trial time if they know the boys.
Harpenden are very well represented at County level across all the age groups:

County Age Group Performance Pathway / Development
U16 - 1
U14 - 2
U13 - 9

Charley Cricket
U12 - 6
U11 - 10
U10 - 6

More info on the Herts County Pathway can be found HERE

Area and District

Herts Area and District Cricket is a private entity which is entirely separate from the County pathway and as such is not recognised by the ECB.
However, they run training sessions and coaching over the winter with matches across the summer months and are a good opportunity for extra cricket.
Access to this program is based on a referral from Harpenden CC and is subject to a trial.
We have a number of boys in the program across all age groups. If you would like some more info on this, please ask your Age Group Manager.

One to One coaching

Our coaches Scott Galloway and Luke Heskett also offer additional opportunities for one to one sessions. For more information, please contact them directly using messaging in Pitchero.
