Having won the toss the decision was made to bowl first this week encouraged by a greenish looking wicket.
The Wheathampstead Innings was a tail of 2 halves, where despite some decent bowling (Arjan Saini 6 overs for 16 runs), they looked comfortable at drinks with only 2 wickets down approaching 100 runs on the scoreboard. Excellent bowling after drinks, supported by some sharp fielding, over the 2nd half of the Innings only allowed Wheathampstead to reach 156-8 off their 40 overs. Tight spells from Tom Buckley (0-16 from his 5 overs), Tim Spencer (2-21 from 6 overs) and a great comeback spell from Sam Ebbutt, really put the pressure on, and if 2 highly questionable not out decisions on run outs had gone our way, we would have been chasing at least 20 runs less.
Despite the early loss of Guy Dunham, progress was good, thanks to an aggressive 30 from Ramesh Narayanan on his 6th team debut. Good batting from Simon Caunce (25), and the No 5 (25 not out), allowed the elegant Tim Spencer to continue on untroubled to end up on 56 not out. We reached 157-3 with 6 overs to spare for a comfortable victory in the end.
Some good performances again, but as pleasing is the support and effort from everyone which certainly makes my job easier.
